Welcome to Grow Pōneke, a celebration of local kai, community, and the ways they connect to make our city flourish.
The celebrations began in March with Local Food Week – an annual festival created by community organisation, Seeds to Feeds. With council support, Seeds to Feeds created a feast of opportunities for Wellingtonians to meet and share, learn and practice, as they grew, cooked and ate local food together.
Next up was Neighbours Aotearoa, a campaign inviting everyone to get to know their neighbours better in March. This year’s theme was ‘Growing Together’. Community events included picnics, an inner-city chess tournament, a children’s treasure hunt, and a hangi feast.
Seeds to Feeds’ Harvest Festival also ran in March, with a program of incredibly special community meals showcasing kai grown and prepared locally by exceptional community members.
Festivities wound-up with the Community Gardens Open Sundays throughout April. Our community gardens are open to the public, but this was a chance to meet the gardeners, take a tour, and find out more about what happens at the gardens and how you can get involved.
