We provide a range of parking services and facilities to make accessing the city and suburbs easy and safe.

Christmas and New Year

On-street metered parking will be free around Wellington City (including waterfront) on the following public holidays:

  • Wednesday 25 December 2024 (Christmas Day)
  • Thursday 26 December 2024 (Boxing Day)
  • Wednesday 1 January 2025 (New Year's Day)
  • Thursday 2 January 2025 (Day after New Year's Day)

Clifton Car Park and Tory Street Car Park normal rates will apply (weekend rates apply on public holidays).

Parking infringement changes

From 1 October 2024, parking infringement fees will increase following government regulatory changes.

Hourly fees apply 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

Resident parking

Resident parking areas allow people who live in busy streets to park near their homes.

Coupon parking

Coupon parking zones allow you to park for longer than 2 hours near the central city. Coupon parking rules apply Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Council-owned car park buildings and areas

Find a car park building or area in the central city and on the waterfront.

Business and trade parking

Businesses can apply for a loading zone permit or trade parking coupons.
