Thorndon Pool – outdoors

You must be 5 years or older to use the spa pool.

Swim memberships are an economical option if you swim at our pools 3 or more times a week. They're available for all Council pools.

Club Active memberships include access to two gyms, and all Wellington City Council swimming pools, spas/saunas and Group Fitness classes.

Concession passes are a convenient and cheap option if you use our pools regularly – buy a concession pass. For current LeisureCard members, your discount is automatically applied if it's available on the pass you're buying.

Concession passes are non-refundable, non-transferable, and are valid for two years.

Due to the popularity of Thorndon Pool and its short opening season, lane/pool hire is limited.

Bookings for events and activities may be considered, and are subject to our lane hire requirements. 

Groups can book swimming lanes. Minimum 6 swimmers required.

Schools can book out lanes or the entire pool during the day for school events.

Community group fees: $10.50 per hour for a lane

Commercial fees: $33 per hour for a lane

You can also book the pool and facilities from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for:

• birthday parties for 8 to 14-year-olds
• work, team or family functions.

Hireage includes spa, inflatable toys, pool entry, barbecue and qualified staff. 

All bookings are subject to availability, and need at least 10 days notice.

We offer birthday parties and after hours bookings for children aged 8 - 14 years old, large groups and functions for workplaces and families.

After hours bookings are offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7pm - 9pm, and provide exclusive use of the pool. This includes pool entry, support from qualified staff, and access to the spa and barbeque. 

Bookings are subject to availability, and require at least 10 days notice. To enquire or request a booking, email recreation@wcc.govt.nz.

If you are unable to give 10 days notice for a booking, you may consider a birthday party booking at one of our indoor pools.

You can store your things in a cubby hole near the main pool. These are not lockable. 

You can also keep small items safe at reception – just ask for a free valuables tray. We'll give you a tag which you can hand back when you want to collect your items. 

We have an outside barbecue area with seating. You can hire a barbecue for $30 per hour.

We sell swimming caps, ear plugs, goggles, nose clips and more. 

You are welcome to breastfeed in public at our pools.

Children under 3 years old must wear a waterproof nappy or Little Swimmer swimming pants in the pool. You can buy Huggies Little Swimmers for infants at reception.

This pool is not wheelchair accessible. Access to the pool is down steps.

There are no accessible changing rooms or toilets at this facility.

There are 16 free off-street car parks by the facility.

While swimming at the pool, users are eligible for two hours free parking and must sign in at reception.

Outside of the pools opening season, paid parking is in place.
