Background
On Wednesday 8 June 2022, Wellington City Council and the Wellington Tenths Trusts (Tenths) announced its agreement to end our lease of the land which is the site of the Granville Flats at 559 Adelaide Road, Berhampore. The land will be returned to the Tenths.
The Granville Flats housed 144 tenants across 107 units. All tenants were found new accommodation before February 2024.
Current status
Enabling works prior to the main dismantling and demolition works is now being carried out. This works includes:
- Safe removal and disposal of all materials containing asbestos
- Removal and disposal of all built-in joinery (for example, kitchens and bathrooms) and plumbing
- Removal and disposal of all internal doors and hardware, floor coverings (vinyl and carpets) and curtains
- Enabling works is due to be complete by the end of March 2025.
The site will shut down from Saturday 21 December 2024 until Sunday 5 January 2025, and will reopen Monday 6 January 2025.
Neighbours' information evenings
We will be holding two neighbours' information evenings on 22 January & 12 February 2025, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.
These will be at the Rangimarie Tennis Clubrooms, Martin Luckie Park, Lavaud Street, Berhampore, and will:
- Introduce you to the people involved (Wellington City Council, consultants and contractor).
- Discuss the sequence and methods to be used for the main dismantling, demolition and civil earthworks.
- Discuss the reasons for a dilapidation survey being undertaken prior to this work commencing and the access required.
- Answer any questions you may have.
What's next
The main dismantling and demolition work is scheduled for March 2025 and will be complete by the end of 2025. We expect to hand the land back to Tenths before the end of 2025.
