About the project
The primary driver for the renewal was that the current play area assets were fully depreciated and had reached their end of life. The play area was 20 years old and had non-compliance issues on different pieces of equipment and the safety surfaces, in relation to the current NZ Standards for playground equipment and surfacing.
Construction began on 21 October and was completed by 20 December 2024.
Background
Two concept designs were included in the public consultation on the renewal. Based on feedback, concept 1 was the overwhelming favourite between the two designs presented. We have then tried to accommodate additional requests where we can.
There were some requests that we were not able to accommodate, largely to do with budget constraints and the layout of the site.
For more information on the consultation, see the Churton Park play area refresh consultation page.
