Important dates throughout the 2025 local election period.

Enrol

April 2025: Enrolment update packs were posted out, for checking details

Thursday 10 July 2025: Last day to switch between the general roll or Māori roll

Friday 1 August 2025: Last day to enrol to cast an ordinary vote is 1 August 2025. You can still enrol up to 10 October 2025, but you’ll need to cast a special vote

Friday 10 October 2025: Last day to enrol and be able to vote in this election

Friday 4 July 2025: Candidate nominations open

Tuesday 15 July 2025: Candidate briefing will be held at 10am on Level 16, Wellington City Council offices at 113 The Terrace

Friday 1 August 2025: Nominations close at 12 noon

Vote

Tuesday 9 September – Monday 22 September 2025: Voting documents posted out

Tuesday 9 September 2025: Voting opens

Election hub opens at Te Awe Library, 29 Brandon St with special voting available. The hub is open 9.30am-5.30pm from 9 September until voting closes at 12 noon on 11 October 2025.

Monday 6 October 2025: Additional voting hubs open from 10am-5.30pm from 6 October until voting closes at 12 noon on 11 October 2025.

Thursday 27 October 2025: Mayor and councillor inauguration and swearing-in ceremony

By Wednesday 10 December 2025: Return of election expense declaration forms (55 days after date of declaration of results)
