Wellington Water Limited
Wellington Water Limited, trading as Wellington Water, was established in September 2014 and was the result of a merger between Greater Wellington Regional Council’s water supply group and Capacity Infrastructure Services Limited.
Capacity Infrastructure Services Limited was established in 2004 as a shared service council controlled trading organisation, jointly owned by the Hutt and Wellington city councils. Its focus was to provide high quality, safe and environmentally sustainable services to its shareholders with a focus on asset management planning and contracted service delivery. In 2008 Upper Hutt City Council contracted Capacity to manage its water, stormwater and wastewater services and assets.
On November 1, 2013, Capacity's ownership was restructured with Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils all becoming equal shareholders.
Wellington Water now is owned by the Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils, South Wairarapa District Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council. The councils are all equal shareholders.
The role of Wellington Water is to manage the drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services of its shareholder council owners.
Committee and Board of Directors
The Wellington Water Committee provides overall leadership and direction for the company. A representative from each authority sits on the Committee.
