We ran an online survey to gather public feedback on what makes Cuba Street special, what needs a rethink and what would make it an even better place to visit. The survey will help us develop a Cuba Neighbourhood Plan.
The survey received 867 responses. Data was collected online in April 2025.
Key findings include:
- Respondents view Cuba Street as vibrant, inclusive and iconic.
- The top things respondents love about Cuba Street are the vibrant hospitality, diverse retail options (many of which are seen as alternative or independent), character of the area (including iconic elements such as the Bucket Fountain) and its walkability, and the sense of community.
- Most respondents (72%) agree Cuba Street feels safe during the day, but only one-third agree it feels safe at night.
- Most respondents (74%) find the area easy to move around, but more could be done to improve the pedestrian experience.
- Respondents identified several areas for improvement, including expanding pedestrianisation, improving cleanliness and appearance, addressing social issues and homelessness, and enhancing vibrancy and amenity.
