Community insights

Explore data relating to the sentiment of the Wellington community.

As a part of informing the 2024-34 Long Term Plan, the Council commissioned a report summarising previous community engagements and surveys to outline key issues facing Wellingtonians.

The report included analysis of 26 separate community engagements in a range of formats. In total, 28,861 submitters’ feedback was reviewed.

The report covers the following topics:

  • Our urban form
  • Our culture
  • Our community
  • Our environment
  • Our economy
  • Our transport network.

The analysis shows that residents support an idealised version of Wellington, and that they want a good life and good opportunities for all in the city. However, there are differing opinions about how to make this happen, and people are generally wary of financial impacts.

Additionally, respondents acknowledge that they don’t always know enough about how Council spending priorities to comment on matters like budgets.
