Construction and demolition waste planning

Contractors undertaking high value building projects valued at $2 million or more, are required to submit a Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.

A Waste Management and Minimisation Plan must be submitted to and approved by the Council before any construction starts.

Once the plan has been approved, the principal contractor must ensure that a copy of the plan is kept on site, and that every contractor knows where it can be found. It must be made available to any contractor carrying out any work in the plan.

Requirements

A list of specific requirements for construction and demolition waste planning is included in section 14 of the Solid Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw 2020.

These requirements cover:

  • estimated quantities of each type of waste to be created and diverted
  • responsibilities of the principal contractor
  • other information required within three months of completing the building work.
