Road use fees

The following fees apply for all road uses from 1 July 2024.

These fees are for activities carried out on the roads under the Wellington City Council Code of Practice for working on the road or the National Code.

The term 'road' is defined in the code as Council roading and includes:

  • footpaths
  • carriageways
  • berms
  • batters
  • driveways.

All fees include GST.

Corridor Access Request (CAR) fees

Minor CAR $272 One off fee charged at approval.
Major CAR $785 One off fee charged at approval.
Project CAR $1350 One off fee charged at approval.
Preliminary CAR $725 One off fee charged at approval.
Global CAR $1350 One off fee charged at approval.
Non-conformance inspections $260 One off fee charged when work is non-conformant to conditions of approved WAP and/or TMP.
Call out inspection $385 One off fee charged when our officers are called out after hours.
Re-inspection $130 One off fee charged when TMC required to revisit site of a previous inspection for the same matter.
Underground Asset Register $169 One off fee charged when an applicant applies for a major, project, or global CAR.
Non-conformance notice $440 One off fee charged when someone starts work without a valid WAP and TMP approval.
WAP extensions $65 One off fee charged at approval.
Overdue penalty $65 Monthly fee charged when a CAR goes into start notification overdue (after 5 working days), or completion notification overdue (after 10 working days).
Texturising (per m²) $8.70 One off fee charged when site sign off has been completed.
Road user licence $130 One off fee charged at approval.

Fees for other uses of road

Construction and building maintenance

Processing fee: $100

More charges may apply, based on encroachment valuation or the use of parking.

Special licence fees

Application fee: $75

This fee applies when road or parking spaces on road are requested for a temporary event using road space as part of a licensed premises. More charges may apply, based on the use of parking. This use of road may also involve other consents, licences or approvals (such as temporary liquor licences), which may generate more fees.
