Resident parking permit

If you want to park in P120 or P180 spaces near your home for longer than the time limit, you need to apply for a resident parking permit. A permit will be for the zone you live in.

There is a maximum of two resident parking permits per household, except where there are multiple mobility permit holders in a single household.

Businesses in residentially zoned streets in Berhampore, Newtown west and Wadestown east can also apply for resident parking permits. They can apply for permits for up to two vehicles associated with the business.

The permit is:

  • electronic – your vehicle licence plate number works as the permit
  • only valid for the vehicle it's issued for
  • valid for a maximum of 12 months.

You need to reapply each year. Getting a permit one year is not a guarantee you’ll get one in future years. It will depend on the number of households and businesses that apply each year.

Permit fee

  • 12-month resident parking permit fee: $195.00

Vehicle types not eligible for a resident parking permit

You can’t get a resident parking permit for these types of vehicles:

  • non-motorised vehicles (such as, trailers and caravans), heavy goods vehicles, motorhomes, house buses, buses, and coaches
  • boats
  • all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and quad bikes.

Under the Parking Policy, these vehicles have the lowest priority for long-stay on-street parking. Therefore, they are not eligible for parking permits.

Visitor day passes

A day pass allows anyone visiting your home to park longer than the time limit in P120 or P180 spaces. This pass is valid for a single calendar day.

All households in the Berhampore, Newtown west and Wadestown east parking zones can apply for a batch of free visitor day passes every year. You don’t need to have a resident parking permit to get the visitor day passes.

How the day passes are allocated:

  • Households with no off-street parking get 50 free visitor day passes a year.
  • Households with off-street parking get 25 free visitor day passes a year.

You can buy more visitor day passes for $18 each. See how to issue visitor day passes.
