City Safety and Wellbeing

The City Safety and Wellbeing Plan is our renewed approach to safety in Pōneke. It outlines all the ways we hope to make the city safer and enhance the experiences for everyone who lives, works, and plays in Wellington.

The plan builds on strong existing relationships we have with police, local businesses, community organisations, and residents in our inner-city neighbourhood.

In September 2025, Wellington City Council released the first six-monthly update on the City Safety and Wellbeing Plan. This update outlines the progress made so far, highlights the initiatives already in place, and shares what we are learning as we trial new approaches. The update also reflects on how we are working with our partners, businesses, and the community to build a safer, more welcoming city. You can read the full update below.
