Smart water use

By collecting, storing, transporting, and using our water better, we can reduce emissions and ensure there is enough water for everyone.

Did you know?

  • On average Kiwis use 200 litres of water per day.
  • You can save up to 20 litres of water for every two minutes you take off your shower.
  • Running your garden hose for 1 hour uses up to 400 litres of water.
  • Switching from a 3-star to a 4-star WELS showerhead could save up to 4.5 litres per minute. If you were to take an 8-minute shower every day, that would save more than 13,000 litres per person over a year, or around 45 bathtubs full.

How to be smarter with your water use

You can start by reducing water flow from taps and showerheads, switching to more efficient appliances, and making sure you fix leaks and drips right away.
