The pilot will offer microgrants of up to $1,500 to eligible businesses.
Councillor Teri O’Neill, Chair of Kōrau Mātinitini | Social, Cultural, and Economic Committee, says the Council recognises the challenging situation many businesses are facing.
“We know times are tough for all businesses in Wellington and every little bit helps. The microgrant is a practical tool that increases the level of support available for our business community.
“These microgrants sit alongside other assistance the Council already provides, including training through WellingtonNZ, open for business signage, and marketing promotion of Thorndon Quay as a shopping destination.
“Wellingtonians love our local businesses, so we’re targeting this support to them, and they can use it for a variety of activities including digital marketing, signage, beautification and staff wellbeing.
“Our microgrant pilot has been designed based on lessons learned from Auckland’s experience and a similar programme run by Auckland Council.”
The pilot programme will open for applications from Monday 4 November. For more information on how to apply, businesses located on Thorndon Quay can contact microgrants@wcc.govt.nz, or find out more by visiting: www.positivelyponeke.govt.nz/business-support
