Biannual sand shift scheduled for this week

Wellington City Council has scheduled the biannual sand shift from Freyberg Beach to Oriental Bay this week – a regular operation to maintain the size and shape of the popular beaches.

Weather permitting, the beaches will be closed Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 October while the heavy machinery does the redistribution work. 

Signage will be up, and Council staff will be around to ensure public safety, and provide information and assistance if required.
